About Naomi Hargraves

Engagement

Naomi lectures in Character and Creative effects at university degree level. She has won the Whitaker award for drawing with the Medical Artist's Education Trust (Gordon's Museum), a Vice-Chancellor's award, and grants for innovative interdisciplinary projects.  For her final degree work, she was awarded the 'Wow Factor' prize from 'Twin FX', as well as a University Prize for her certification. She also runs tailored workshops and technical demonstrations within her field. As a side project, she makes decorative pieces to support the conservation work of the 

World Land Trust.

Marionette carved from wood

A Marionette carved during a course with Puppet Craft, operated here by the owner of Puppet Craft, John Roberts.

Experiments in making spinning tops

This tippe top was turned from Beechwood. It was an early experiment in simple top making.

Articulated puppet hand

Jointed and carved lime wood hand with inserted brass rod ready to be strung and joined onto a life-sized rod puppet.

Moulding a component part

  The moulding of a helicoid made from styrene straws, brass rod, oil-based clay and crochet. The mould is made from condensation cure silicone and crystacal plaster.

Experimentation in constructing a Helix

A helix made from drilled brass tubing, glass beads and wire. Intended as a foundation on which to sculpt a Helicoid.
